KiCad "Input Power pin not driven by any Output Power pins" (ERC fix)
KiCad electrical rule check (schematic) message: Input Power pin not driven by any Output Power pins (power_pin_not_driven in kicad-cli reports).
What it means
ERC checks that every net with a "Power input" pin also has something that supplies power: a "Power output" pin. Power that arrives through a connector, battery or jumper has no such pin, so ERC cannot see the source. Place a PWR_FLAG symbol on that net (often both the supply net and GND) to tell ERC the net is powered.
Common causes
- Power coming in through a connector or battery symbol whose pins are passive.
- GND with no power output pin on it, which needs its own PWR_FLAG.
- A net split in two by a passive part (a ferrite, fuse or resistor in series), so the flag is on one side only.
- A regulator symbol whose output pin is typed as passive instead of power output.
How to fix it
- Add a PWR_FLAG (from the power library) on each externally powered net, including GND.
- Put the flag on the same side of any series part as the pins that complain.
- If a connector is your power source, it is fine to set its pin type to power output in a project copy of the symbol.
When it is safe to ignore
Never set the check to ignore. It also catches the real mistake of a power pin connected to nothing that supplies it.
Good to know
The marker is attached to one pin on the affected net, not necessarily the one that is wrong, so check the whole net.
