It provides a socket connection between a PCB and another assembly, useful when the connection needs to be separable. Included in the KiCad download are a ten-pin symbol, the ten-pad HDR-SMD_10P-P1.27-V-F-LS3.5_XKB-R1 footprint and a 3D model. That model allows the socket's position to be viewed within the assembled board. The conversion has been used by 1 ProtoFlow engineer in real designs.
