KiCad "Library symbol issue" ERC warning
KiCad electrical rule check (schematic) message: Library symbol issue (lib_symbol_issues in kicad-cli reports).
What it means
The symbol's library cannot be found in your symbol library table, or the library no longer has that symbol. The schematic keeps its own copy of each symbol, so connectivity is unaffected. It matters when you want to update symbols from the library.
Common causes
- A project shared without its project symbol libraries or sym-lib-table.
- Library nicknames that differ between computers.
How to fix it
- Add the library under Preferences → Manage Symbol Libraries.
- Ship a project sym-lib-table with the libraries next to the project.
When it is safe to ignore
Harmless for the design itself. Expect many when you check a project without its libraries.
Find every “Library symbol issue” on your board
Upload your KiCad project to the free checker. It runs KiCad 10's DRC and ERC with your own rules, shows each finding on the board and links it to its fix. 10 free checks a day, no account.
