For a board that needs linear supply regulation, TI's LP3871EMP-3.3/NOPB belongs to the low-dropout regulator family. This fixed-output variant is used to provide a regulated supply rail for downstream circuitry. Its SOT-223-5 surface-mount package is an important layout consideration because a linear regulator's heat handling depends on the surrounding board design. Included in the free KiCad download are a five-pin symbol, the SOT-223-5_L6.5-W3.5-P1.50-LS7.0-BL footprint with five pads, and a matching 3D model.
