Such protection is commonly placed near an interface so transient energy can be diverted before reaching sensitive circuitry. This part uses a surface-mount SOD-523 package, represented here by a two-pin symbol and the two-pad SOD-523_L1.2-W0.8-LS1.6-RD footprint.
