ProtoFlow on PCBWorld-Bench: routing results and KiCad checks

LG AI Research's PCBWorld-Bench scores routers on real KiCad boards. In our recorded runs, ProtoFlow Studio comes back clean on 98 of 99 small boards and all 30 attempts across 10 medium boards. Every attempt counts, failures included.

The ProtoFlow team · Published 13 October 2026

IN SHORT
D3-A · 99 small boards
0.990
98 of 99, one attempt each
D3-B · 10 medium boards
1.000
30 of 30 attempts, three per board
  • The one miss is not a routing miss. On one D3-A board ProtoFlow saved the routed file with a custom paper size KiCad cannot read, so it counts as a fail. Its routing was complete.
  • Fast. A median of 32 s on D3-A and 46 s on D3-B per attempt, start to finish, including the agent checking its own work in KiCad's design-rule check.
  • Cheap. A median of $0.33 and $0.43 of model usage per board at list price; $53 for all 129 attempts.
  • Strong without a model. ProtoFlow's router on its own scores 0.919 and 0.900, in a median of 0.1 s and 0.7 s per board.
  • Fewer vias and less track than the original designs. 0.98x and 0.92x the reference vias, at 0.90x and 0.93x the track length.

A board is a Clean Pass when every net is connected and KiCad's own design-rule check finds zero error-level violations under the benchmark's rules. One missing connection scores zero.

Published rows as reported (source: arXiv 2607.05915v4). Their times are per attempt. Ours are wall-clock medians: the agent's include model time on a shared subscription, the router's include saving and checking the board. 95% intervals for our agent (Wilson, attempts treated as independent): D3-A 0.945 to 0.998; D3-B 0.886 to 1.000.

CLEAN PASS AGAINST TIME

Most boards are done inside a minute.

Share of attempts finished with a Clean Pass by each point in time. The solid line is ProtoFlow Studio with Opus 5.5, the dashed line ProtoFlow's router alone.

D3-A · 99 boards
0.000.250.500.751.000.1 s1 s10 s1 min10 min
D3-B · 30 attempts
0.000.250.500.751.000.1 s1 s10 s1 min10 min

The router alone settles within seconds; the agent spends its time checking and repairing the boards the router could not finish. The agent's slowest attempts include waits on the model API while four boards ran at once.
